4/26/2004 Scott has brought up two issues. The first is that there are times when the lab manager needs to have 24 hour access to his/her office. He states on the second issue: "The total amount of space needed for the lab manager and the student staff is 525 square feet, not 425 square feet. This includes space for the lab manager, lab technical support, data recovery services, student assistant managers and an office assistant."

Projects: HBLL, HBLL/OIT Labs, OIT
Priority: 50 Task ID: 851
Long Description: There are questions about having open computers in the library. We need to resolve this issue.
Status: Hold
Owner: Lund, Bill Contributors:
Due: TBD Opened: 11/12/2004
Changed: 3/9/2005
11/18/2004 Bill Holman said that Betty Walling was getting a copy of the policy.
11/23/2004 From our meeting with Bill Holman we agreed:
  1. HBLL we investigate why our own public machines are inconsistent, specifically, some of the open machines are limited to BYU sites and others are not.
  2. We will determine what Family History wants to be doing
  3. Once everything is as consistent as it is going to be, and we have determined our own policies, we will document them.
  4. We will review the document with Bill Holman and come to an agreement.
  5. Bill Holman will take the agreed upon document to Kelly McDonald for a formal exception to the policy against open computers.
The library is meeting on 12/17 to begin these discussions.
12/1/2004 Terry Dahlin points out that we have the following agreements that require us to provide services to non-BYU patrons.
  • As a formal government document repository, we are required to provide services to all community patrons.
  • In our agreements with UALC we are required to provide services to all patrons from UALC institutions.
  • As a formal family history library of the Church we are required to provide services to all family history patrons.
1/14/2005 Bill Lund needs to write a request to OIT for an exemption to the policy.
3/9/2005 This seems to be resolved. Moving to hold until June at which time it will be closed if no further action.
